Man beats cancer and bookies

A terminal cancer sufferer has collected another u00a35,000 (Rs 3.5 lakh) in winnings after betting on his life.

Jon Matthews (59) refused to accept his doctor's prognosis that he would be dead within months. Matthews was diagnosed with a cancer linked to asbestos in 2006.

Keen to defy doctors' predictions, he placed a u00a3100 (Rs 7,000) stake with odds of 50/1 that he would remain alive until June 1, 2008. This won him u00a35,000.

He also bet that he would survive until June 1 this year, which has now netted him another u00a35,000.
