Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived Sunday in Washington for a four day US visit as the state guest of US President Barack Obama.

Manmohan Singh was accorded a ceremonial welcome at St Andrews Air Force Base and the US Air Force band gave the visiting Indian prime minister a guard of honour.

Manmohan Singh was received by White House Chief of Protocol Capricia Marshall, US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Robert Blake, US Ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer and India's Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar.

Indian-Americans also turned up in large numbers to greet the prime minister.

Manmohan Singh will hold talks with Obama Tuesday on a range of bilateral, regional and global issues to take the strategic partnership to another level.

Besides firming up a framework for counter-terror cooperation and completing remaining steps of the nuclear deal, the two sides are expected to ink 10 agreements in areas ranging from intellectual property rights, trade and investment, agriculture, health and green technologies.
