Mohammad Altaf, 23, and Saema, 26, were arrested Saturday from central Delhi's Hauz Qazi area on a specific information and the rescued child, Zubaid Ali, was handed over to his parents.
Altaf and Saema work together at a handicrafts shop at Chandni Mahal. Saema got married in 2006 but had no child. She offered Altaf Rs.10,000 for kidnapping a male child.
"Altaf, in order to make quick money, readily agreed and kidnapped a child from central Delhi's Chitli Qabar area near Chandni Chowk, after luring him with toffees. He then sold the boy to Saema," said Vivek Kishore, deputy commissioner of police, central district.
Saema is a resident of east Delhi's Zaffrabad area and does not live with her husband. Altaf lives with his wife and three children near Chandni Chowk.
