Lahore: Some 270 Pakistani woman doctors and medical students here have filed a police complaint alleging that a gang blackmailed them after stealing personal data from their Facebook profiles and mobile phones.

The girl students and doctors from several hospitals and medical colleges have approached the police and Federal Investigation Agency through the Young Doctors Association (YDA) providing them phone numbers of the gang members who have been harassing them and extorting money from them for quite sometime.

"As some of the girls mustered courage to report the matter to police, others followed suit," YDA Secretary General Dr Salman Kazmi said. He said the YDA on behalf of 270 woman doctors and girl students have filed an FIR against three unknown persons who had posed as officials of the Military Intelligence (MI) and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

"The gang had extorted around Rs 30,000 each from at least 50 girls and harassed and blackmailed the remaining women in other ways," he said, adding the doctors and students have removed their Facebook profiles following the incident.

The Gowalmandi police in Lahore registered the FIR against unidentified people for blackmailing and harassing the medical students and doctors of government teaching hospitals.

According to the FIR, the suspects would send photoshopped pictures to the female doctors and students to blackmail them. Deputy Inspector General Haider Ashraf said the police in collaboration with intelligence agencies have launched an investigation into the matter and would soon nab the culprits.
