A British teenager, who survived a 90ft plunge from an apartment while on holiday in Spain, is said to be fighting for her life in hospital.

Grace Ford, 17, who had been out celebrating the end of her school exams with friends in Majorca, is believed to have fallen when she tried to sneak out of a room where Briton Edward Soppet, 18, was staying.

Ford, who broke her legs, her pelvis and right arm in the fall, was discovered hours later by hotel security staff lying in a pool of blood outside the Torrenova apartment block in Magaluf.

Tests showed that while Ford suffered internal bleeding and liver damage, her spine is undamaged, meaning she should be walking again in four months.

She is now in an induced coma in a stable condition at the holiday island's Son Dureta hospital in Palma.

Soppet, who is believed to have helped her climb out of the window and then gone back to bed, is being investigated by the police. He is expected to appear before a judge.

If charged and convicted he could be jailed for up to four years for failing to help the woman.

He told officers he thought the window led to a rear access but it was a vertical drop to a courtyard.

"Our investigation revolves around how it came to be that the young man went back to sleep after the young woman fell from seven storeys up," the Sun quoted a police source as saying.

"She was in a very bad way and needed two pints of blood in a transfusion," the source added.
