A diplomat Vice Consul of the US Consulate Maureen Chao in Chennai on Saturday expressed her regret over her remark ufffd "I became dirty and dark, like a Tamilian" ufffd that has stirred a major controversy.

The remark was made at a function at SRM University on Friday as she described memories of her 72-hour train journey 23 years ago while trying to be funny about her ordeal. Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalitha has demanded an apology.
