Acting on information that the 25-year-old woman became pregnant several times but still had no children, police searched the house where she lives with her parents in Nij Beets town in the Netherlands' northern Friesland province.
The woman told police that her babies, born between 2002 and this year had been given up for adoption. But she could not come up with documents to prove it.
Police later found four suitcases in the attic, each containing the remains of babies.
The woman's parents said they were unaware of their daughter's pregnancies, police chief Wim van Essen was quoted as saying by Sky News.
The bodies have been sent for forensic investigation, and the woman was produced before a judge, who sent her to custody for 14 days.
Town Mayor Francisca Ravestein said the community was 'very shocked' by the events.
