Former Arsenal footballer Jermaine Pennant, 35, has revealed in his new book, Mental — Bad Behaviour, Ugly Truths and the Beautiful Game that his one-time teammate Ashley Cole, 37, already had a girlfriend when he started dating his now ex-wife Cheryl, 35.

Cole married Cheryl in 2006, but the couple split in 2010 amidst claims that the Cole cheated on the pop singer. According to British tabloid, The Sun, Pennant wrote that his former teammate once locked the unnamed woman out of his flat, while he enjoyed a date with Cheryl.

Pennant said he was sharing his North London apartment with Cole in 2004, and that's where the two first met. "One day, Cheryl was around his place with him. The door was locked from inside. He kept the key in the lock, so no one could get in. His other girlfriend had a key and was trying to get in, calling him, going mad because she knew someone was inside. She was calling all the lads but we ignored her calls. We knew what was going on down. Inside, Cheryl and Ashley were probably other thinking: 'What's going on?'" Pennant wrote.
