Brazilian midfielder Casemiro and Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani will be sorely missed on the first night of two quarter-finals in World Cup. The former is suspended for the two yellow cards, while the latter has a calf injury.

Both the South American teams have so much in common. They have seven World Cup crowns between them. They have conceded only one goal so far in four matches and scored seven each. When these two teams face two of the favoured teams from Europe to win the World Cup — France and Belgium respectively — it's inevitable that the battle will be intense. But the absence of Casemiro and Cavani will delight their opponents.

Under Tite, Brazil conceded only six goals in 25 matches, and one of the reasons for this is the presence of the Real Madrid defensive midfielder Casemiro. He has been omnipresent for Brazil in every match. It will be a great challenge for the Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho to do what Casemiro has done. On the other hand, Cavani allowed Suarez to operate in the deep. Both the goals Cavani scored against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal were results of a counter-attack with Suarez playing an important role in both.

Suarez admitted that Cavani's injury was a tough one. "The injury is a bit complicated. He is essential for the player he is and the way he contributes for the team. However, we have players who can do it the same way. Things do not depend on just one player in Uruguay. We depend more on collective work," he said.
