India not only defeated England in the nail-biting hockey semi-final on Tuesday but they also appear set to leave them behind in the final medals tally.According to the top bookies operating in the NCR region, an estimated Rs 500 crore is riding on India finishing second at the CWG medal tally.

The bookies are giving a rate of Rs 2.15 and Rs 2.30 for team India."We are giving Rs 2.70 to Rs 2.85 for England. The rates for India and England are going neck-and-neck, as there is a difference of just two gold medals and the latter are ahead in the overall medals tally by 30," a south-Delhi based bookie told MiD DAY.

Apart from the overall position in the medals tally, bets are also being placed on the Wednesday's hockey final between India and Australia. "The rates for hockey final are Rs2.25 to Rs2.45 for Australia and Rs4.15 to Rs4.40 for India," he said.

The satta betting on the Commonwealth Games did not start on an enthusiastic note but with the success of Opening Ceremony and Indian players performing well at several events, the bets started showing an upward trend.

Sources in the satta betting circle revealed that on an average around Rs 700 crore is on stake on the overall competition but the majority of the money is being put on India getting second position on the medals tally.
Surprisingly, the hub of betting markets - Gujarat and Mumbai - are not much active but bookies from NCR are accepting bets from other states like Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

"The rates would vary event to event. Rates for events like hockey, badminton, tennis, wrestling, boxing, shooting and weightlifting are highest," said sources in the grey market.

Recently, the Ghaziabad police nabbed three people from Indirapuram who were running Commonwealth Games (CWG) betting syndicate.u00a0

u00a0"The gang transacts around Rs10-12 lakh daily and currently involved in betting on CWG events such as wrestling, archery, shooting, hockey and tennis. They put up bets on Indian players' probability of winning gold-medals," said Raghubir Lal Superintendent of Police (SSP).

The police recovered account books, seven core banking account cheque-books, cash and other ledgers maintained for keeping transactions from the accused.

Before the Games started, UK bookmakers were accepting bets on whether the Delhi Commonwealth Games would be cancelled at the last minute. When a bridge collapsed a few weeks before the beginning of the Games, injuring dozens of construction workers, Ladbrokes shortened their odds to 20/1 that the Games would not go ahead.
