Danish second seed Caroline Wozniacki, last year's US Open runner-up, advanced to the third round of the two million-dollar WTA Montreal Cup yesterday defeating Swiss Patty Schnyder 7-5, 7-5.
Wozniacki, who like all the top-eight seeds received a first-round bye, is the only player among the top three seeds remaining in the field of the last major tuneup for this year's US Open, which begins August 30.
Top seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia went out for the second week in a row at the hands of a qualifier while US third seed Venus Williams pulled out last week with an injury.
