Go back to the golden era of jazz with a soul-stirring performance
The First time musician Greg Banaszak was in town, he mesmerised us with an unforgettable revisit of Charlie Parker's Bird with Strings. "This time, it's more of a traditional jazz quintet setting featuring piano, bass, drums, trombone and alto saxophone — a variety of jazz standards that were popular in the 1950s and 60s by Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderly, Jackie McLean and others. There is also a new composition specifically written for this concert that I composed for my dear friend, Mumbai's jazz legend Benny Soans called Mr Soans Throne," informs Banaszak.

This will be the saxophonist's third performance in Mumbai and he feels that the audience here is both, warm and interested in the concert programme. "It's a pleasure to perform for such an engaged audience that finds the creative process of jazz so enjoyable," he adds. Banaszak's band comprises world class performers, including Theron Brown, one of the most talented and creative jazz artistes of his generation. "He combines so many styles and genres of music with grace. Trombonist Chris Anderson is in a class by himself, and rightfully, one the finest pillars of the jazz community in Cleveland, teaching jazz to hundreds of students. Not many can match his clarity, soul and sheer velocity on the trombone. Chris and I have been making music together for over 25 years," says Banaszak. The finale of the jazz festival will be a jam session where musicians from all participating bands will play an impromptu set.
