Doctors` Day, observed in India on July 1st to honor Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, is a time to acknowledge the vital contributions of medical professionals. While celebrated on different dates globally, such as March 30th in the US or December 3rd in Spain, the core sentiment remains universal: a profound appreciation for the dedication and commitment of doctors. The Role and Commitment of a Doctor Doctors are highly trained professionals essential to our society, tasked with the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health. Their role, however, extends far beyond treating illness. They dedicate over a decade to mastering the subtleties of a complex and inexact science, constantly striving to provide the best possible care. This commitment to go above and beyond for their patients, as vividly demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic, is what truly sets them apart. It is this willingness to do whatever it takes in the best interest of their patients that has saved countless lives. What Doctors Hope for from Society While unwavering in their service, doctors also have hopes for what society can offer in return. This is not about entitlement but about creating a sustainable and respectful healthcare environment for all. First and foremost is the need for appreciation and trust. Beyond a single day of recognition, a consistent acknowledgment of the long hours, emotional toll, and dedication inherent in the medical profession is crucial. The patient-doctor relationship is a sacred bond built on mutual trust, and it is vital for this bond to be protected and cherished by patients, their families, and doctors alike. Fair compensation is another critical aspect. The journey to becoming a doctor is long, arduous, and involves a commitment to lifelong learning. Fair and timely remuneration is a reflection of the value society places on health, expertise, and the immense responsibility doctors carry. A significant increase in public health spending is also essential for the nation`s progress. As India strives to become a developed economy, raising government spending on public health from the current 1.8&#37 to a more robust 4-5&#37 of the GDP is imperative. If invested wisely in modern medical education, research, and training facilities, this would dramatically improve the quality and length of our citizens` lives. Finally, a safe and supportive work environment is non-negotiable. Medicine is an inexact science where, despite the best efforts, outcomes cannot always be controlled. It is crucial to differentiate between an unfortunate outcome and negligent practice. Tragically, assaults and harassment against doctors, sometimes leading to grievous injury or death, are on the rise. Society has a collective responsibility to ensure the safety and protection of its healthcare professionals. A Cancer Specialist`s Perspective As a cancer specialist, I witness both suffering and immense hope. Cancer remains a formidable challenge, yet our ability to fight it has grown remarkably. An increasing number of patients are being cured, thanks to more effective and less toxic therapies. Advances in chemotherapy, targeted drugs, and immunotherapy-which harnesses the body`s own immune system to fight cancer-are transforming patient outcomes and offering new hope. A Shared Commitment Ultimately, Doctors` Day is more than a celebration; it`s a reaffirmation of a shared commitment. It is a day for society to support its doctors, just as doctors dedicate their lives to supporting their patients. By fostering an environment of mutual respect and accountability, we can build a healthier future. As we honor today`s healers, we must also inspire the next generation of medical professionals, reminding them that medicine is not merely a science, but a profound calling rooted in compassion, integrity, and service to humanity. Tina Singh Walia is an internationally certified image coach, ICF-certified wellness coach, and Master NLP practitioner with over 27 years in fashion and + years in coaching. From battling body image issues in her youth to becoming a successful model and entrepreneur, Tina’s journey is one of resilience and reinvention. She now empowers individuals and corporate professionals through holistic coaching that blends style, communication, body language, and mindset. Having transformed thousands of lives, Tina believes confidence begins within and champions authenticity in every sphere. Roopali Pasricha Bhasin learns her story that inspires others to evolve, thrive, and present their best selves-inside and out. Q: Tina, your journey has inspired thousands. Can you share what first drew you into the world of image consulting? Tina Walia: Absolutely. My journey started from a very personal space. I struggled with PCOS, severe acne, and low self-esteem in my late teens. I gained over 14 kilos during my board exams and faced bullying, which deeply affected how I viewed myself. But I was also academically driven-I topped my college in Economics. It was only later, in my late 30s, that I decided to formally pursue image consulting. I wanted to help others reclaim their confidence, just like I did. Q: That’s incredibly powerful. What does “image consulting” really mean beyond just fashion? Tina Walia: Image consulting is much more than clothes. It’s about aligning your outer image with your inner values and goals. It includes non-verbal communication, etiquette, grooming, personal branding, and even posture. Whether you’re entering a boardroom or a social setting, your image tells your story before you say a word. My goal is to make that story empowering and authentic. Q: You’ve worked with many top corporates. How does image affect professional success? Tina Walia: Profoundly. First impressions are often visual. I’ve coached executives at Kotak Life, IndiGo, HP Petroleum, and more. Whether it’s leadership presence, dressing for influence, or refining communication, a well-managed image builds trust, credibility, and likeability. Especially for women, it can be a game-changer in male-dominated industries. Q: You’re also a certified wellness coach and NLP practitioner. How do those skills support your work? Tina Walia: They’re essential. Confidence doesn’t come from clothes alone-it comes from within. NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) helps shift limiting beliefs. Wellness coaching supports balance and mental clarity. I work with clients to build confidence holistically, from body language to mindset. That’s what makes the transformation lasting. Q: Social media puts immense pressure on people’s self-image. What advice do you have? Tina Walia: Social media is a highlight reel, not real life. Stop comparing. Focus on becoming the best version of you, not someone else. Work on small habits-good grooming, better posture, authentic self-expression. When you invest in yourself, you begin to glow from within, and that’s something no filter can replicate. Q: Any advice for those looking to reinvent themselves, especially later in life? Tina Walia: It’s never too late. I started a new career at 39, and I’ve never looked back. Reinvention is a strength. Start small. Learn a new skill, take better care of your body, show up differently. Your confidence grows with every small win. Q: What’s next for you? Tina Walia: I’m working on expanding my coaching programs, both online and offline. I also want to create more workshops tailored to young professionals and women re-entering the workforce. Empowering people to feel seen, heard, and confident-that remains my mission. Tina Walia is proof that image, when aligned with intention, can be a powerful catalyst for change. Her story reminds us that transformation is always possible-and it begins with self-belief.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Tina Walia | Image Stylist and Integrative Wellness Coach (@tinawalia_imagecoach) Written by Roopali Pasricha Bhasin
