Key accused in the scam held, claim police

The police claimed to have arrested one of the main conspirators behind the DDA housing scheme fraud on Sunday.
The police was interrogating Deepak Kumar, 34, for the last two days in connection with the alleged scam in allotting flats under the scheme. He was finally arrested on Sunday from Paschim Vihar.
However, Indian Justice Party leader Udit Raj claimed that Deepak was arrested "under pressure" from the builder lobby.
"He is infact the whistleblower. Though he was involved with the guilty initially, Deepak told me about the scam much before the draw of lots. Even the police was informed," he said.
He demanded that instead of arresting him as an accused, Deepak should be made an approver.
Laxmi Narayan, 54, was earlier arrested in connection with the scam on Friday from Jhunjunu in Rajasthan. The former Co-operative bank employee had allegedly applied for a flat under the scheme using forged documents.
Narayan submitted 177 application forms and paid for all of them. He is now in police custody.
As the investigations into the scam continued, the police raided various places in Khanpur and Dwarka in the Capital and some places in Jhunjunu.
The police have also sent the software used in the draw of lots to the Hyderabad-based Central Forensic Laboratory to find out if it helped rig the procedure.
Some DDA officials from Rajasthan are also reportedly under the police scanner.
