Demand 250 young employees of a financial firm, as they fight for two-months' salaries
Twenty-five-year old Anjali Saini dreamt of a good life when she shifted to Delhi from her hometown Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. With a dream job at a financial firm and a monthly salary of Rs 17,000, Saini seemed well on her way to the top. But then her dream shattered. And on Thursday night, Saini joined about 250 colleagues to protest for their dues. They locked up the firm's Northern Region Head Manish Sinha and staged a dharna.
Employees of Unicon Investment Solution, Moti Nagar, stopped work and locked the main gate of the office.
They alleged the company had cheated them by making them work for two months without paying them salaries.
Subir Chaudhary, the business head of Unicon Investment Solution, said, "Our team has been working very hard but the company has failed to pay our salaries for two months now. The due date for our salary was July 7.
When that wasn't met, we were promised in writing that we would be given our dues on July 16. But nothing happened. Many senior colleagues, including the assistant vice-president of the company, Nancy Budhiraja to whom we were reporting, have quit."
Around 70 female employees too had joined the protesters and were readying to stay on till late.
Around 15 policemen had been deputed to avoid any untoward incident. Vikas Mallan, senior chief financial officer, of the company, said, "Our Moti Nagar branch has not been performing well and most of the employees were hired on commission basis. Though they generated business worth Rs 30 lakh, payment of about Rs 18 lakh couldn't be realized. Now, they'll only be paid if they get more business. We will not shut the branch but pay only the deserving candidates."
