A tribute to the legends

If drummer Adrian D'Souza could use three words to describe the vibeu00a0at his band K*N*A*P'S Sting and the Police tribute show, they would be "rocking, rocking and rocking!"

Sting and The Police devotees rejoice India's first band to perform tributes to the rock legends will rock Bangalore this Saturday.

K*N*A*P, the Mumbai based quintet who formed in 2008, will be performing classic Police hits such as Every Breath You Take, Don't Stand So Close To Me and De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da as well as some of Sting's newer, solo hits like Englishman In New York.

The band comprises some of Mumbai's top sessions musicians Nikhil D'Souza (of Sutasi fame) on vocals and guitar, Vinay Lobo on guitar, Kenneth Rebello on bass, Adrian D'Souza on drums andu00a0 Bevan Fonseca on keys who began by playing originals that were a fusion of alternative, pop and jazz.

Their style is a diverse crossover of genres and fan-bases, and it is this that makes them similar to The Police who pioneered New Wave music with their blend of punk rock, jazz and pop in the 1970s and '80s.

It was this similarity of style that inspired K*N*A*P to begin their tribute shows, and the rave reviews they received surely prove these guys are up to the task of emulating the English rockers.

Their shows have a truly rocking vibe with people dancing and singing along, says D'Souza, who was overwhelmed when Police fans turned out in hordes to see them play at an earlier performance.

He sees Sting and The Police's ongoing popularity to be a result of their varied style which brings fans of rock, pop and funk all together under one roof to celebrate timeless music.

One can only hope K*N*A*P* won't go the way of their idols and split up to pursue solo careers 'cause together they have certainly hit the right note.
