Locals, police stop naked tantrik trying to help duo retrieve a recently-buried body at a burial ground
A sacked software employee and his wife took to witchcraft to overcome a financial crisis but landed instead in the police net along with a tantrik.
Dhananjay, 28, was working as a non-technical staff with a software company but was sacked recently. He allegedly started his own business while wife Shilpa started working with a private company. Despite this, they found themselves in a financial crisis and decided to overcome it through supernatural means.
Shivkumar, 63, who claimed to be a tantrik from Kollegal practising witchcraft for the past 20 years, allegedly told the couple to carry out a pooja at a burial ground belonging to their community at Magadi, on the outskirts of Bangalore.
Accordingly, the couple and the tantrik gathered at the burial ground at about 10.30 pm. Shivkumar allegedly lit camphor around a skull and started the pooja. By then, a few passers-by noticed this and alerted Magadi police.
Police said that when they got to the spot, a nude Shivkumar was smearing vermilion. Au00a0 few angry locals tried to assault the tantrik and the couple but police managed to rescue the trio and brought them to the police station.
Police said Shivkumar was planning to retrieve the recently-buried body of a person who had died in an accident. A few animal bones, incense sticks and heaps of red powder (kumkum) were recovered from the spot.
The three were arrested on charges of creating public nuisance and will be produced before the court tomorrow.
