Rs 60 crore in additional revenues; employees to be rewarded
The Games are over but the fun has just started for employees of the Delhi Transport Corporation. The DTC has earned additional revenues of Rs 60 crore during the course of the Commonwealth Games by providing its buses to Organising Committee and several government agencies.
Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the amount also includes additional gains made by the DTC due to withdrawal of its buses from certain areas in the city.
And now workers are going to be rewarded for their efforts. Complimenting the employees for their dedicated service during the Games, Lovely also announced 10 per cent increase in dearness allowance for them with effect from the current month.
The Minister also announced a Diwali bonus of Rs 3,500 to each of the 30,000 employees of the corporation. The financial implication on the government due to enhanced dearness allowance and bonus will be around Rs 10.25 crore.
Lovely said various foreign delegates as well as athletes have praised the DTC bus service. "It is a matter of pride that DTC rose to occasion and offered a world class bus service during the Games," he said. Lovely said DTC earned an additional revenue of Rs one crore per day due to shunting out of Blueline buses from South and Central Delhi as well as from areas near the CWG venues.
A total of 1,600 Blueline buses, plying in south and central Delhi and near the venues of the Games, went off roads in September after a directive from the Delhi Government. The buses were kept off the roads as part of Government's efforts to beautify the city during the Commonwealth Games.
