You pass through a metal detector to enter a watering hole and an innocent voice asks you a question in a language you don't understand. This happens again. And again. Each time in a different language, till you finally get to English. "Are you human?" you are asked.u00a0 You don't have to answer anyone but yourself. The detector that's been placed at the entrance to Colaba's Leopold Cafu00e9 by artist Uday Shanbag, is one of many installations dotting the city as part of a public art project titled, Encounters. Organised by Asia Society India Centre, the initiative involves five artists who are investigating life in Mumbai. Neil Dantas has set up heart-decorated chataais along Bandra Bandstand. It doesn't matter if you a jilted lover or a coochie-cooing couple. Sprawl on one to contemplate on the meaning of existence.

The event, Unplugged & Sizzling Asha Bhosale, will see the singer as Chief Guest. The evening will feature some of her most popular number spanning the 1950s till today, sung by various artistes. The highlight: Asha Bhonsle will take the stage for a couple of songs. All proceeds from sale tickets will go towards educating children, providing financial aid to widows, and helping the underprivileged.

This Sunday, don't be surprised if you find it difficult to flag a rickshaw outside Bandra station. Chances are, drivers will be huddled nearby guffawing at their lives played out by seven actors who weave in a message of following road rules. Road Safety Week ends on Sunday, and the Mumbai Police have thought up a novel initiative to drive home their message. Collaborating with Ideal Drama And Entertainment Academy, they will organise street plays across important junctions. "Six hundred accidents occur every year because people don't adhere to traffic rules," says Mujeeb Khan, writer-director. At the end of the play, be ready to pledge to follow road rules.

What happens when two music maestros belonging to the North and South Indian classical traditions come together?
