A class XI student, reportedly in an inebriated condition, allegedly attempted suicide on Tuesday. According to sources, the 17-year-old had brought a bottle of liquor to school and was afraid of punishment. So he allegedly jumped from the third floor of the building in Mayur Vihar area of east Delhi.
The student identified as Madhukar Pawar is reportedly on ventilator support at Dharamshila Hospital near Vasundhara Enclave. Raja Ram Dutta, Medical Superintendent of the institute, said neurosurgeons have conducted a surgery on the boy.
Madhukar's parents have refused to go to the police against the school authorities. Police said that CCTV cameras installed inside the premises will be examined to verify whether he was provoked by someone. Police will also take the statement of eyewitnesses of the incident.
The student was earlier caught by his teachers bursting crackers inside school premises. He was warned that he would be suspended if there were any further disciplinary issues. But despite this, on Tuesday morning, he reportedly brought a bottle full of liquor in his school bag. His teacher noticed this and informed the principal after which Madhukar ran upstairs to the third floor and jumped.
Madhukar was told that apart from a complaint to the principal, his parents would be informed as well after which he got scared. Two of his classmates ran after him to make him stop from but he had already leapt off the building before they could reach him. Police said that Madhukar has received severe head injuries and is currently under observation at the hospital.
