While senior cops pacified the crowd, PMC promised to resolve issue at the earliest
According to popular belief in civilian circles, cops and their families have it made when it comes to housing, subsidies and other benefits, but that might not be true when it comes to water supply.

Members of over 400 families living in the Shivajinagar Police Line, claim they have been facing water supply problems, besides other issues, since 2007 and yesterday morning the colony did not get a single drop of water. u00a0
This finally goaded around 425 members of police families to take to the roads in protest against the PMC. Senior police officials were called in to pacify the agitators and the demonstration was called off after the civic body gave assurance that adequate water would be supplied to the colony.
Assistant Sub Inspector (Retd) Mache said, “We can’t raise our voices or agitate as per rules in the police manual, while still in service. It is sad that we have to fight for our fundamental right to get adequate water for our homes.” u00a0Rohini Hagawane an aggrieved housewife blames local corporators Neelam Kulkarni, Raju Pawar and Neelima Khade for doing nothing about this issue and other civic-related problems in the colony.
“Besides the shortage of water, we have been facing other difficulties like unclean public toilets, roads and erratic garbage removal services. All these issues are posing a health risk to everyone,” she said.
The other side
Madan Adari, senior engineer (water supply) of Shivajinagar ward, said, “Underground water lines to the colony are over 80 years old and need to be replaced. We have started checking the water supply line to see whether the pipes are blocked. We shall have the issue resolved by today evening. We will also replace the old water supply line with a new one.”
Raju Pawar, municipal corporator from Shivajinagar said, “To solve the issue, I had initiated a plan to make an alternative 10-inch wide water pipeline from Simla Office Junction to the Police Line area. There is a technical problem in seeking permissions from the Public Works Department, since the colony works falls under that department.u00a0
