A Third year engineering student of MIT Kothrud hanged himself in his room at Firodiya Hostel in Deccan. The deceased was identified as Dipesh Pramod Gandhi.
The incident took place between 1 pm and 4 pm. The suicide was discovered by Gandhi's roommate Pratik Pradeep Khivansara when he came back to the hostel.
Khivansara did not get a reply after knocking on the door and on peeping through the window, he saw
Gandhi hanging.
Unable to force the door open by himself, Khinvansara called his hostel mates and they broke the door open.
Gandhi was rushed to the Sahayadri hospital on Karve Road, where he was declared dead at the time of arrival.
His body was taken to Sassoon hospital for post-mortem.
Clueless about cause
"I can't think of any reason for the suicide; my roommate was good in studies and I don't know what drove him to take such a step," said Khivansara, a third year student of BCA at BMCC. "He was hard working and as far as I know, he had no personal problems."
The police also said they had not gathered enough clues so far to give them any idea why Gandhi took the extreme step.
Gandhi hailed from Ahmednagar. He is survived by his parents and a sister, said the police. They said his father was a businessman.
In Gandhi's room, the police found an empty bottle of a medicine, which they think he might have consumed before committing suicide.
Gandhi's body was handed over to his parents late in the night.
