Due to the increase in number of potholes on the National Highway (NH) 17 (Mumbai-Goa), which has witnessed numerous accidents in the past, the traffic police have requested drivers to take five alternate routes, which are mentioned on their official website (www.highwaypolicems.in.

Being the quickest route, those who travel from Mumbai to Satara, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Sawantwadi commuters generally use the Mumbai-Goa Highway, but due to ongoing repair work and probable traffic jams, Kamble has suggested that the next best alternative route is the NH-4. “After this patch, drivers can use connecting routes to get onto NH-17 and reach their destinations. The new route may be longer but it will save commuters from major traffic jam,” said Kamble.

The website also provides commuters with a map of all the road routes in the state. “Commuters can use this map to point out their location and will get a list of numbers for nearby hospitals, blood banks, restaurants, hotels and garages, etc,” said Kamble, adding that the site will now remain active throughout the year.

Helplines have also been opened to assist commuters, should they face any problem while travelling to their villages. To add to that, regular checks for drunken driving will be carried out during the festival.u00a0
