Blaze at bakery near Christ University; prompt action by firemen averts major disaster

A paying guest home, which housed 16 Christ University students, had to be evacuated last night after a bakery,u00a0 located in the same building caught fire.

Firemen rushed to Krishna Nagar Industrial Layout close to Christ University to douse the flames. Six firemen took around 20 minutes to douse the flames, but could not pinpoint what caused the fire.

Assistant fire officer M Sampangiri Ramaiah said, "This was a minor fire, but could have turned major if we were a little late. We found two cylinders inside the bakery that could've exploded. The cause of the fire is still unknown."

Sandeep Pujari (22), a bakery employee, said, "I closed the bakery at 8:15 pm, and everything seemed fine. I don't know how this happened. I'm not sure what the total damage is."

The owner of the Bakery, Rajesh, said that the estimated loss was about Rs 4 lakh.

Sharmila Solomon, matron of the PG, said, "As soon as we heard about the fire, we came down as a precaution. We'll now have to spend the rest of the night at another accomodation close by."u00a0
