A 49-year old security guard at the Roshni petrol pump in Koregaon Park was beaten up by four men after he refused to fuel their vehicle as the station was closed for the day. The incident took place on Saturday night.u00a0
u00a0Bund Garden police have arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Avinash Kutellu from Ghorpadi in this regard.
The other three accomplices are still on run.
Security guard Madhukar Dadasaheb Phadtare lodged the complaint. Kutellu is a criminal on police record and also has a case registered against him at the Cantonment police station. The names of the other three were not revealed by police as they were conducting search operations. The police initially traced the suspect from the vehicle number provided by the guard and later confirmed it with the help of footage from the CCTVs installed at the fuel station.
u00a0"Phadtare's duty at the fuel station was from 6 pm to 6 am. At around 12.30 pm on Saturday night, a boy came on his motorcycle and demanded fuel. When Phadtare told him that the station is closed, the boy started abusing him," said Police Sub Inspector S L Dubal. "The suspect also called up his three other friends who reached the place in no time. All four of them started abusing and beating up Phadtare. In retaliation and self-defence, Phadtare fired rounds in air. The four suspects then fled from the spot. After that Phadtare called up the police control room and explained the whole incident to the police."u00a0
When MiD DAY tried to get in touch with Phadtare by calling up the number listed on the FIR, the person at the other end said it was a wrong number.
