Don Bosco, Matunga stamped their authority in the inter-school football circuit yet again as they clinched their third consecutive under-16 title beating St Francis D'Assisi, Borivali 1-0 in the final Super League round of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association football tournament for boys at Azad Maidan yesterday. Merick Fernandes' winner in the second-half ensured Bosco's hat-trick of trophies.
Merick was extremely pleased with his side's performance after their goalless draw against Campion, Cooperage in the previous round and claimed that there was no better feeling than scoring a winner for the side.
He said: "I'm feeling very proud to have scored the winner and help my team clinch the championship third time in a row. It feels amazing."
Playing for the first time in the u-16 category, Merick praised his midfielders who helped them past teams like D'Assisi, Bombay Scottish, Mahim and St Stanislaus, Bandra. "They did a tremendous job today and throughout the tournament. D'Assisi had some great ball players but we didn't allow them to get away," he added.
