15 minutes after getting discharged from Victoria Hospital, Halappa checks into Mallya Hospital

Former Karnataka minister Halappa, arrested on rape charges, was discharged from Victoria Hospital at 10.15 pm, last night, only to check himself at Mallya Hospital.

After a long stay that started on May 15 at Victoria Hospital, former food and civil supplies Minister H Halappa was discharged.

However, 15 minutes after being released from Victoria, Halappa checked himself into Mallya Hospital at 10.30 pm. According to reports, the cost of a deluxe suite at the swanky hospital costs Rs 5,940 per day.

A source inside Mallya Hospital, said, "He is a patient here now and is staying in room 309.u00a0 We're not sure how long he will stay here."

The source also added, "I will probably see him tomorrow, since I don't know what is medically wrong with him. But he will be treated like any other patient in our hospital."u00a0

Halappa refused to answer any queries by the media and told MiD DAY that he will organise a press conference on July 8. Sources say that Halappa has already paid Rs 40,000 as advance for his medical treatment, which is yet to begin.

Halappa, who faced charges of raping his friend's wife last November in Shimoga, surrendered before the Crime Investigation Department police on May 9, after his bail plea was rejected by a sessions court at Shimoga.

Since then he has remained in judicial custody, albeit in a hospital for treatment of ailments like blood pressure and stress. Halappa resigned from the B S Yeddyurappa ministry after the rape charge was levelled against him.
