“Along with Karnad, Pradeep Vaidya would also be honoured with the Tanveer Natyadharmi Award. Veteran drama and film director Dr Jabbar Patel will preside over the function scheduled for December 9 at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagriha in Kothrud,” said Lagoo.
Karnad who will be visiting the city for two days will also perform at ‘Kathayatra’, which will take place at Balgandharv Rangmandir on December 8. Swati Raje, Bhasha Foundation president and chief organiser of the event, said, “Along with many national personalities from the field of writers and performers, Karnad will talk to the audience on ‘Adgulya Madgulyacha Goshti’ (traditional stories told by women in their kitchens). This would be the first of a kind unique performance by Karnad in the city.”
Meanwhile, the PMC too wants to support ‘Kathayatra’. “We are looking to provide the Balgandharv theatre free of cost to the organisers, which would only be possible after passing a resolution at the Standing Committee meeting,” said Naresh Zurmure, additional commissioner (General) PMC.
Karnad was recently in the news for his blazing attack on litterateur V S Naipaul for his views on Muslims in India. Karnad described the Nobel Laureate as “tone deaf” and an “unreliable” writer of non-fiction at a literature festival in Mumbai. u00a0
