The decibel levels in the city have gone up alarmingly and the noise levels in some areas in Bangalore can actually cause health problems, said Krishna Balamurali, head ofu00a0 N V Dynamics, an engineering solutions company.
"The rate at which the noise from vehicular traffic and at public functions is growing in our city is alarming. At this rate, the numbers are very likely to touch 100dB by the year 2010, which is an intolerable limit,"u00a0 he said.
Not tolerable
The residents who stay near Palace Grounds are annoyed that the decibel level there is increasing by the day.
Despite all efforts, nothing has worked out and now the residents are going to file a public interest litigation (PIL).
"In the last few months, the decibel levels have increased in our area. During the concerts, it is really disturbing," said Kalpana, a resident.
DNA Networks, Sam Prakash, a sound engineer said, "The permitted decibel for concerts and public functions is upto 125dB and we've always managed not to exceed that limit. There are certain kinds of music where the decibel levels vary throughout so there is nothing we can do."
B Ramaiah, senior environment officer of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, also blames industries for the increasing level of noise in the city.
"The increasing number of offices and industries has added to the noise levels," he said.
