Delhi's desi Al Pacinos can recognise a woman from her smell; even sense how she looks
There is more to a woman than what meets the eye. And specially so if you are visually impaired.
"Ladki to aisi cheez hai ki koi aadmi sungh kar bhi pehchan sakta hai (You can tell a woman from her smell)," said Kuldeep, a visually impaired student from the Delhi University.
And as if just recognising a woman was not enough, the visually challenged can tell if the girl passing by was hot or not. Even if she was from the rural background or urban.
"Just walk with me for a while with your eyes closed, even you will start sensing whether it's a male or a female walking by," said a smiling Kuldeep, with a beautiful girl on his arm.
"By the sound of bangles we can easily tell if the girl is from rural background or urban. City girls mostly wear perfumes," said the BA (Hons) English student from Kirorimal College.
However, Kuldeep is not the only Al Pacino. Chandrapal Maurya, a BA (Pass) student from Khalsa College, flirts with his special ability to ascertain whether the girl passing by him was good-looking or not. As he was talking to MiD DAY, he commented: "Maal ja rahi hai. Dono hi aag hai (Two hotties are passing by)."
His sheer audacity would have put to shame the skill of Col Frank Slade (Al Pacino) of the Hollywood flick Scent of a Woman. "Women! What can you say? Who made 'em? God must have been a fuckin' genius," says Pacino in the movie.
"I have two girlfriends, Soni and Vaishali. Both are college mates and are very beautiful. I share everything with them," said Maurya, who had come to Kirorimal College to apply for the post of office assistant.
Doctors too agree that the visually impaired can make accurate guesses about people around them. "Those who lose vision have a developed hearing sense, touch and proprioception (the sense of positions). Their sensory organs get activated as soon as a person nears them," said Dr Rajkumar, a psychiatrist.
"Through their developed hearing sensations the blind can judge how far a object is," he added.
Sniffing beauty
Scent of a Woman is a 1992 film which tells the story of a preparatory school student who takes up a job as an assistant to an irascible, blind, medically retired Army officer. It stars Al Pacino, Chris O'Donnell, James Rebhorn, Gabrielle Anwar and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
In the movie, the Colonel (Pacino) tangoes with a charming girl at a party, whose perfume captivates him. It won the Academy Award for Best Actor (Al Pacino) and was nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
