Varanasi: Two separate cases have been filed in courts - in Indore and in Varanasi - against yoga guru Ramdev's aide Ved Pratap Vaidik for meeting Pakistani terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

One sedition case was filed in the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Varanasi and has been listed for hearing July 25. The petitioner, lawyer K.C. Tripathi, sought the arrest of Vaidik, who is also a journalist, for sedition.

Tripathi argued that the journalist had committed a crime by meeting a terrorist accused of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai terror attack that left 166 people dead.

Vaidik met Saeed in Lahore where he had gone as a member of an Indian delegation that also included Congress leaders Mani Shankar Aiyar and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid.

Vaidik's meeting triggered outrage, with the government denouncing the meeting.

Another complaint was filed today in an Indore court by two Congress leaders against Vaidik for his controversial meeting with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind and also for his alleged statement on the issue of "freedom" for Kashmir.

Congress local unit's two secretaries Vivek Khandelwal and Mohan Kasera filed the complaint against Vaidik in the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) V P Sharma under Section 124 A (treason) and Section 132 (inciting armed forces to revolt) of the Indian Penal Code.

The court will hear the complaint on August 5 to record the statement of the two complainants,

Quoting the complaint, advocate Ashish Shrivastava who representing the Congress leaders said Vaidik had met the matermind of the 26/11 (2008) Mumbai attack without informing the government of India and also gave a controversial interview to a Pakistani television channel on the issue of "freedom" for Kashmir, which is "highly condemnable" and therefore, a case of "treason" and "inciting forces to revolt" should be filed against him.
