Police said on Wednesday that UP-based Saleem gang was involved in the crime. "During investigation, we came to know that the accused had used white Santro car bearing a UP registration number during the crime.
A police team went to Lucknow where they found that the person on whose name the car was registered had sold it long time back to a person named Mohammad Sabeer. As Sabeer was identified a prime suspect, we carried out raids along with UP police in different areas of Lucknow," said OP Mishra, DCP east Delhi.
"We also found that a gang had looted Padmini jewellers in Krishna Nagar, Lal Quarters area on February 1 and their modus operandi had been the same as in the Delhi crime. Through records, we found that Sabeer and his accomplices had used similar tactics in 2006 too.
So we arrested Sabir and one of his accomplices Mohammad ," Mishra added. Meanwhile, outer district police claimed to have arrested another suspect in this case. "Ajay is wanted in more than 20 cases in Delhi and UP. He was also involved in the robbery in Krishna Nagar area but he is a member of notorious Joga Gang.," said a police officer.
According to the cops, the Saleem gang is one of the most notorious gangs in UP and the Salim brothers are the most wanted criminals there.
